SLO Sail and Canvas is seeking a full-time Sailmaking Department Manager.

Job Overview:

Location: San Luis Obispo, CA
Pay: Depends on experience (45k-$60k+ DOE)
Benefits: Matching retirement plan, health insurance, paid vacation.
Job Description: The Sailmaking Division manager would be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and overseeing a small staff of people doing sail assembly, cutting, etc… along with strategic planning for growth in the years ahead.

The ideal candidate for us would have all of the following experience:

Customer interaction
Boat measuring
Computer sail design
Plotting/Cutting
Sail assembly and sailmaking managment
Service
Sail repairs

Equipment:

Cordes Mini
Bernina 217s
Various straight stitch machines
38’ long Autometrix plotter (new in 2013)
7000 square feet of manufacturing space

Software:

Azure Design+ FLEX + Flow + Gaff Sails
SMSW
PatternSmith
AutoCAD
SolidWorks

Multiple national championships have been won with SLO Sails across a number of classes from Daysailers, Holder 20s and Santa Cruz 27s, and we’d like to expand to more classes. There is an existing design library with hundreds of existing sail designs and a modern manufacturing facility waiting for your talents.

SLO Sail and Canvas has a complete support staff for administrative and office tasks so you can concentrate on building sails.

SLO Sail and Canvas is diversified into four markets:

1. Small sailboat covers- We maintain a catalog of hundreds of patterns and annually ship thousands of covers worldwide.
2. Catamaran trampolines- We build beach cat trampolines in addition to cruising cat trampolines.
3. Sailboat sails- Primarily dinghy and beach cat sailmaking with a current volume of 100-200 sails per year.
4. Custom projects, technical sewing, and government work- We do work for aerospace clients, have DOD contracts, and have technical capabilities to handle textile related jobs with demanding requirements.
